The artwork of Helen Glazer is generally characterized by imagery inspired by the natural world, vibrant color, and meticulous attention to surface and detail of form. Glazer says, " My interest in the insights of chaos and complexity theories and how they can be seen operating in the natural world has influenced my work for a few years. Since 2007, I have been engaging with these concepts more directly in a new series. The relief (top row left) is derived from a photograph of a cloud (top row right). Via digital 3D imaging, I translated these ephemeral forms into a tangible, richly textured sculpture."
Helen Glazer graduated cum laude from Yale University with a B.A. in art and earned an M.F.A. in painting from the Mount Royal Program at the Maryland Institute, College of Art, also attending the renowned Skowhegan School of Art. She has exhibited her work nationally and has completed two mural commissions. Her works are in numerous private and public collections. Helen has also published articles about artmaking and artists, in magazines and journals such as Artpapers and Feminist Studies, as well as over 30 catalog essays about artists for the Rosenberg Gallery, Goucher College, where she was exhibitions director for 12 years and shepherded the exhibitions program to regional prominence. She created a self-guided tour of the Smithsonian Institution museums on the theme of mythology as a Fellow in Museum Practice in 1994-95. In 1998, Helen left her position at Goucher to concentrate on her own artwork.
